The neurobiologist is Scripps Research’s first Kavli honoree and newest member of prestigious academy

Patapoutian shares the neuroscience award with co-winner David Julius, PhD, of University of California, San Francisco. Patapoutian has catapulted scientific understanding of sensory transduction—the methods by which the body responds to sensory input from the eyes, tongue, nose and skin. He also has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Members of the academy represent the most innovative thinkers in nearly every field and profession, including more than 250 Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winners.

Neurobiologist Ardem Patapoutian, PhD, is the first Scripps Research scientist to be awarded the Kavli Prize, a prestigious distinction presented by The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, The Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research and The Kavli Foundation.
