Jeffery Kelly, PhD

Jeffery Kelly, PhD, professor in the Department of Chemistry, has been named the recipient of the 2021 Edward E. Smissman Award, given by the Division of Medicinal Chemistry of the American Chemical Society (ACS). Kelly receives the honor for his seminal work on transthyretin and its contributions to the amyloid hypothesis. Two formulations of a drug created in the Kelly lab, Vyndaqel® (tafamidis meglumine) and Vyndamax® (tafamidis) became, in 2019, the first FDA-approved treatments for transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy.
