Molecular biologist, neuroscientist and Nobel laureate Ardem Patapoutian, PhD, received additional recognition for his scientific accomplishments when, on June 14, 2022, an Armenian postage stamp with his image was put into circulation. Patapoutian was born into an Armenian family in Beirut, Lebanon, and immigrated to the United States in 1986.

Earlier, in April, the San Diego chapter of ARCS (Achievement Rewards for College Scientists) named Patapoutian its San Diego Scientist of the Year. He is the sixth faculty member to receive this honor. Patapoutian and his laboratory team continue to reveal new insights into the mechanosensitive channels that allow the body to sense touch and temperature, work that earned him the 2021 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
