The Office of Marketing and Communications at Scripps Research has won several accolades from the San Diego Press Club in the 2022 Excellence in Journalism Awards. The awards honor the work of San Diego County’s best media and communications professionals from various disciplines.
For its fourth consecutive year, Scripps Research was recognized for its scientific storytelling across magazine feature articles, video and podcast content, as well as its use of visual web design. The awards were announced at the annual Excellence in Journalism Awards ceremony, hosted in San Diego’s Balboa Park on October 25, 2022.
Scripps Research took first place in three independent categories:
Magazines: Feature (Light Subject), for the “Interoception: A Sense of Self” article in the Fall 2021 edition of the Scripps Research Magazine.
PR, PIO & Trade Publications: Association/Member Publication, for the Fall 2021 edition of the Scripps Research Magazine.
PR, PIO and Trade publications: Video, for “Discovering Touch: The life and science of Nobel Laureate Ardem Patapoutian, PhD.”
In addition to these wins, the institute was also named runner-up in two other categories:
Radio/Podcast: Podcast, for a mini-series focused on brain health in the Summer 2022 season of the Science Changing Life Podcast.
Websites: Overall Use of Design, for the online version of the Scripps Research Magazine.
The San Diego Press Club is one of the largest groups of its kind in the nation with nearly 400 members competing in the news communications field. The Excellence in Journalism Awards are judged by representatives from 15 professional journalism organizations from around the country.
