Matthew Disney, PhD, a professor in the Department of Chemistry, spoke before a packed auditorium on Scripps Research’s La Jolla campus about how he and his team design medicines for diseases with no cures. His novel technique for identifying drug candidates holds promise for people with myotonic dystrophy type 1, frontotemporal dementia, ALS, some cancers, and a variety of rare genetic diseases.
