Celebrating a shared legacy of scientific discovery and education, Scripps Research and the Society for Science co-hosted The Future of Scientific Enterprise, a fireside chat that brought together leaders from both organizations to discuss the future of science through the lens of STEM education, innovation and philanthropy. The February evening event in the Scripps Research Auditorium featured an engaging conversation with leaders from both institutes—Pete Schultz, PhD, President and CEO of Scripps Research, and Maya Ajmera, President and CEO of the Society for Science and Executive Publisher of Science News. Joe Palca, science correspondent for National Public Radio, served as moderator. Topics ranged from the promise of emerging fields such as regenerative medicine and brain research to the importance of investing in the next generation of scientists, and how philanthropy fuels discovery. After a lively audience Q&A, the 200-plus guests attended a networking reception on the Hazen Courtyard. Both organizations trace their origins to the Scripps family’s enduring commitment to advancing science and education, and the event was made possible through the generous support of the Scripps Family Foundation.
