Scripps Research’s Office of Marketing and Communications received several awards this month from the San Diego Press Club’s 51st Annual Excellence in Journalism Awards and the 2024 Folio: Eddie and Ozzie Awards. Both organizations recognized Scripps Research for its scientific storytelling, centennial magazine, video and podcast content, and visual website design.

The San Diego Press Club honors the best work from San Diego County media and communications professionals across a variety of fields. This year’s winners were revealed during an awards ceremony at the Liberty Station Conference Center on October 22, 2024.

Scripps Research placed in several categories, including:

(First) Magazines: Feature – Serious Subject, for the feature article “Scripps Research Centennial Feature” in this year’s centennial edition of Scripps Research Magazine.

(First) Magazines: Feature Layout Design, for the feature article in the centennial edition of Scripps Research Magazine.

(Second) Photography – Video: Feature – Serious Subject, for the video “The Next 100 Years of Scripps Research: A Century of Science Changing Life.”

(Second) Radio/Podcast: Podcast, for the 2024 season of the award-winning Science Changing Life podcast series.

(Second) Websites: Overall Use of Design, for Scripps Research’s centennial website celebrating 100 years.

(Third) Photography – Video: Feature – Light Subject, for coverage of the 2024 Skaggs Graduate School of Chemical and Biological Sciences commencement ceremony.

The San Diego Press Club consists of nearly 400 members competing in the news communications field. The Excellence in Journalism Awards are judged by representatives from 15 organizations from around the country.

Scripps Research honored with Folio Awards

The 2024 Folio Awards recognizes excellence in engaging media throughout the publishing industry. The awards’ Eddie category honors editorial excellence in market-specific categories, while its Ozzie category recognizes the best in design and visual media. Award winners were honored at a gala on October 22, 2024, at City Winery in New York City.

Scripps Research received multiple honors across both categories:

(Ozzie Winner) Supplemental, Annual or One Shot, for the centennial edition of Scripps Research Magazine.

(Eddie Honorable Mention) Single Article – Association/Nonprofit, Alumni/University, for the centennial edition of Scripps Research Magazine.

(Eddie Honorable Mention) Video – Association/Nonprofit, for the video “Tafamidis: A Revolutionary Drug for Treating Neurodegenerative and Heart Diseases.”

(Ozzie Honorable Mention) Design, Single Magazine Issue – Association/Nonprofit, Nonprofit/Charity, for the centennial edition of Scripps Research Magazine.
