Nearly 100 floating lotus lights dappled the lake on the Scripps Research Florida campus during the inaugural Light Up the Lake event in January to raise funds for Prader-Willi syndrome research. Children with the disease have a specific type of genetic damage to chromosome 15 which leads them to experience insatiable hunger. The luminescent floating flowers were purchased for a donation by children and families affected by the condition, as well as their supporters, to bring awareness to the disorder and inspire scientists to keep working for a cure.
